How a doctor thinks when a child has fever...
Fever is the most common childhood illness. Cause of fever can rarely be diagnosed on day 1. As most fevers settle in a span of 5 to 7 days, we plan treatment accordingly. We consider many things like age of the child, day of illness etc.
Besides Dengue, these days malaria and hand-foot mouth disease are also common.
Luckily Malaria is not too much in our city but common in few towns nearby Meerut.
Whenever cause of fever is not clear, we give a plan for three days and again review.
Tests are inconclusive in first few days of fever.
I know it's painful but don't worry as all fevers are bound to settle soon...
